The room
BAR•TON occupies a former music shop at the foot of a Bucharest apartment block. Anda Zota and MuroMuro designed a restrained interior of birch plywood, mosaic flooring and stainless steel, with acoustics built into the construction.

Browse this venue’s gear ↗Industrial Bucharest room-within-a-room anchored by Genelec 1039A and 1038BC main monitors — large active studio speakers used below their capacity so distortion stays low. Listening-booth Technics SL-1200 MK4s, rotating Cambridge Audio / SMSL / Beyerdynamic headphone electronics, restored Akai GX-F71 cassette decks and Canare copper complete a studio-derived chain. Treated walls plus big Genelecs is the opposite of a horn kissa: controlled, even, and built for a former music shop that still thinks like a control room.

About the sound system
How the system serves the room
Bar Ton separates the large Genelec room monitors from individual listening booths and their source equipment. The venue’s account of operating the monitors below capacity is consistent with keeping headroom for musical peaks instead of using their maximum output continuously.
The treated room-within-a-room addresses a different issue from amplifier power: managing the acoustic environment in which the monitors operate. Booth headphone chains offer another listening mode without requiring the whole public room to follow every individual selection.
